Oh, and it appears to be better at preventing iron deficiency and bone mineral loss than it’s bovine counterpart. So, to the ever-growing list of things I now say that make me feel old, we can add: “when I was kid, milk came from cows, end of story” (other favourites? “What’s twerking” and “he needs to pull those pants up”). Okay, I exaggerate, I’m sure the hippies were drinking goats milk to wash down their homegrown sprouts back in the day but the options for milk are certainly plentiful these days and goat’s milk might need to be at the top of the list due to its stellar nutrition profile.
According to Dr. Weil, goat’s milk may also be a little easier to digest as it has slightly less lactose than cows milk and a different type of casein. While some people tolerate it better, its definitely not lactose free so proceed with caution if that’s a concern. And then there’s the taste…it’s definitely different from cows milk and we all know how kids loooove different. Trial and error will tell the tale and if the milk doesn’t pass inspection, there’s always goat cheese, goat milk yogurt or getting a pet goat and developing a rapport over years so that the kids bond and then don’t want to offend the family pet by turning their nose up at her contribution to dinner.
